To take the lip out of the equation, a wiser play may not be forward, but sideways! I have a plugged lie with a high lip to contend with. The objective is to pop the ball out to your selected landing spot in the fairway.
I’ll stand a bit taller and focus on keeping my feet pressure on the insides to avoid over-driving with my legs.
Play a square clubface to utilize the leading edge. Unlike a traditional bunker shot, here we use the leading edge to dig into the sand to help pop the ball out.
Ball position is according to your club selection. I have a PW, so I am playing it in the middle. Weight favors my front leg to encourage a steeper descent.
Make a full turn with loose hands to promote a significant hinge. Hit down into the sand behind the ball.
