What are you really thinking when over a shot? It is important to explore this and actually listen to yourself. A great exercise is to verbalize your actual thoughts (yes, out loud) for an entire round. You’d be amazed at what comes out of your mouth.
When I hit a few bad shots, my entire game tanks. Any tips?
A few bad shots, especially back-to-back, can wreak havoc on the brain. They key is to let those shots go. Instead, focus on the process of the current shot.
The mental game is about your process from tee to green. What are you thinking, feeling and doing? Thought is powerful. It creates your reality. Positive thoughts help players improve, where negative thoughts degrade a player’s performance. More pars require positive and happy thoughts. Focus on your self-talk before, during- and post-shot. Identify any negative talk and replace with positive and productive thoughts.
What are you really thinking when the shot is over? Again, verbalize every detail, so you can then learn. A great way to capture these verbal thoughts is using your phone’s voice recorder app. Bring this to your coach for evaluation.
Why do I SUCK so bad!!!!!
No really, it does! It shuts off the frontal cortex of the brain. Poor decisions result. In addition, anger releases anger hormones, setting up the next swing to be full of tension and fear. Instead, even if the ball dribbles down the fairway, find something positive to say to yourself. You’ll be amazed at the cumulative results.
I missed that right, dang, but at least it’s moving in the right direction.
