Golf as we know it today originated from a game played on the eastern coast of Scotland in the Kingdom of Fife during the 15th century. Players would hit a pebble around a natural course of sand dunes, rabbit runs and tracks using a stick or primitive club. Let’s get you up to speed on golf’s back story! It is probable that golfers shouted to their ‘Forecaddie!’, who would always be some distance ahead to draw attention to the fact the ball was coming and, in time, this was shortened to ‘Fore! The almost contemporaneous appearance of the terms caddie, fore-caddie and Fore! supports this theory over the others.
