Christina Ricci’s Tip of the Week
horse of a different color
We talk much about the importance of good alignment, typically a square set-up, but in the bunker… it’s a horse of a different color.
The sand propels the ball out and an open stance, where our body lines are left of a square set-up, complement this effort. It allows the bounce of the club to do its job, which is slide through the sand with the ball going along for the ride! A square stance will send the leading edge digging and the ball flying… or worse, just a few feet in front of you.
With an open stance, the out-to-in swing path will impart a left-to-right spin so when the ball lands, it will run right. With that in mind, aiming at the target is not wise. Instead, aim more left of your target, so that when your ball lands… it rolls right toward the pin.
So, let’s get to it!
