I’ve always been fascinated with the “je ne sais quoi” that French women and several American icons seem to have in spades.
The palpable sense of impeccable style, confidence, and grace that come together in a few seemingly lucky and extraordinary people – Audrey and Katharine Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Jackie O, and more recently, Kate Spade.
They are dignified, and their style is utterly sophisticated.
Mastering that sophisticated style is an art. Each garment has to communicate authority and a sense of, “I’ve got this.” All the while following a “less is more” mentality. They typically have one foot in the last century with classic silhouettes and the other foot in this century with luxurious, modern fabrics.
Here are a few of my favorite designers who have mastered modern country club style.
Founded by two, very dignified country club ladies, Lizzie Driver apparel is comfortable, classic, and as easy to wear on the street as on the greens. The tasteful and high-quality garments make them the epitome of modern country club style.
Made in Manhattan, Fairway Fox makes the sheath dress, skort, and polo modern for the golf fashionista. Fun details such as gold zippers and buckles add extra glamour.
Kevan Hall Sport
When asked why couture designer Kevan Hall decided to get into women’s golf fashion, he says (with a smile) that his friends asked him to make some fun and stylish apparel for them. His new line definitely has a sense of fun with bright colors and patterns in the mix.
