The goal, when faced with shots off the fairway, is to first carefully assess the situation; look up, down, and all around – so you can make an educated decision. The goal, of course, is to get your ball back on to the short hairs in one shot, preferably a flat lie with a good angle for your next shot. So, let’s get to it!

If you find your ball in a puddle of water, don’t panic and pull out the Wellies. Instead, breathe a sigh of relief because you are entitled to relief. Phew, that’s a relief!
A ball is in casual water when it lies in or if any part of the ball touches the casual water. If so, you get a free drop!

Scope out the nearest location where your swing or stance will not be inhibited, no nearer the hole. From this area, you are entitled to drop the ball within one club length, no nearer the hole.
