A healthy start to the day translates to opportunities for more pars. A healthy body is a happy body. A happy body gives us the best chance to play well.
The best way to begin the day is lots and lots of water. Check out Christina and I in the Kitchen to learn how much water is enough.
After your water flow, whip up this delicious green drink, jam-packed with nutrients designed to get our bodies cleansed and nutrified. In fact, this could very well be your daily breakfast drink!
Preparation and consumption:
Wash the veggies well. Peel and dice the avocado. Blend all the ingredients together, but keep the honey and ginger aside. Add the remaining two ingredients and blend again.
Benefits of each ingredient:
Ginger: The spicy root helps cleanse out your system, aids in digestion, and settles your stomach.
Garlic: Garlic produces a chemical called allicin. Many clinical studies have showed that garlic/allicin has the ability to lower total cholesterol. Garlic is low in calories and very rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, and Manganese. Garlic contains antioxidants that protect against cell damage and aging.
Apple Cider Vinegar: Has anti-glycemic properties. Experts say that apple cider vinegar may lower blood sugar levels.
Honey: Helps in digesting the fat stored in your body. According to the USDA, honey contains about 64 calories per tablespoon. Therefore, honey is used by many people as a source of energy. Best benefit for us golfers:
Recent research has shown that honey is an excellent ergogenic aid and helps in boosting the performance of athletes. Honey is a great way to maintain blood sugar levels, muscle recuperation, and glycogen restoration after a workout, as well as regulating the amount of insulin in the body and serves as an energy expenditure.
Parsley: The flavonoids in parsley—especially luteolin—have been shown to function as antioxidants that combine with highly reactive oxygen-containing molecules (called oxygen radicals) and help prevent oxygen-based damage to cells. Parsley is an excellent source of vitamin C and a good source of vitamin A (notably through its concentration of the pro-vitamin A carotenoid, beta-carotene).
Avocado: A great source of monounsaturated oleic acid that research has shown to both reduce dangerous low-density lipoprotein cholesterol at the same time as increasing the more beneficial high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Avocados also contain a rich variety of heart nutrients including vitamin E for preventing cholesterol oxidation; folate for reducing dangerous homocysteine levels in the blood; potassium for regulating blood pressure; phytosterols for reducing cholesterol absorption; and dietary fiber to control blood sugar levels.
Spinach: One of the best sources of dietary potassium, magnesium, which is necessary for energy metabolism. Spinach also contains vitamin K, fiber, phosphorus, and thiamine.
