On the Green » Posture

The pros take putting very seriously. They know that one putt could defeat their opponent.

Even the second-, third-, and fourth-place finishers know that one putt could be worth a lot of dough. The good news: we don’t have that pressure. But if scoring is in our future, then it’s time we focus on sinking that putt with good posture.

There are three key components to a putt: posture, aim, and speed. Get these right, and you’ll be one-putting.

AVOID THESE POOR POSTURES:

Avoid posture that promotes flying elbows. Tension is sure to creep into this posture.
Too much bend will set your eyes outside the target line, which will affect your aim.

INSTEAD MIRROR THESE:

Eyes positioned just inside the ball and target line.
Stand tall with a slight knee flex.
Arms are relaxed and hanging straight down from shoulders.
Weight balanced or favoring front side.
Keep this consistent through stroke.
Grip pressure is light, between 3-5 on a 1-10 scale.
