HIT DOWN, dang it!
Many women players are afraid to hit down on the ball {I was one of them}. I was literally afraid to chunk the ball, not to mention do some damage to my arms! Instead, I would try and pick the ball clean off the turf. I am not alone. Many players try to lift or “scoop” the ball off the turf.
Golf is a game of opposites. If you do not hit down on the ball, you will not achieve airtime, distance, and backspin – the three components of a solid shot.
The key to success with solid iron play is relaxed hands, arms, and shoulders. Much of this tension begins in the mind. If you struggle with tension, try this drill.
