Avoid a parallel set up for your basic bunker shot.
A normal SQUARE set up will not complement an open clubface. In fact, you may shank it if your face is open and your stance is square.
Create a V for Vertical: Feet, hips, and shoulders positioned left of your target line, creating a V for a more vertical downswing—an out-to-in swing path. A V set up makes it easy to get that high, soft landing.
Misalignment comes with a price!
Like with any shot, if you are misaligned, your body – being very clever – will do whatever it takes to get that ball back on target.
Not only am I misaligned too far right of the flag, I am remaining flat-footed; failing to rotate through the shot, which is critical for success in the bunker.
Keep moving forward and get to your finish.
